It's mother booked it up an oak tree in our backyard, but this little guy started to run up the screen and realized - OOPS! This isn't the way back to my nest. What do I do??? Since it was just frozen there, no doubt in sheer panic because Eddie was on the inside of the screen, just out of the picture, I went out with a towel and carefully removed the baby. Off it went, back to familiar ground. Too cute though! It took a while for Eddie to calm down that day.<br />

The Lupine color was gorgeous - not totally a purple, but not really a blue either. A memorable finish to this - I bound off the last few stitches as my friend and her husband were pulling up my driveway after flying in from France. This cowl was her October 2010 birthday gift. Done! A bit challenging of a knit, but well worth it. Lots more to be knit with this yarn, for sure! This will be her Spring/Summer scarf, because for Christmas, I made her another scarf in a rusty color with some interesting eyelashy yarn in the ruffle. So that's the Fall/Winter scarf. I've been Ms. Frequent Flyer - buzzing across the country and then up and down the East Coast several times. It was good to be home for a few weeks in preparation for Christmas - celebrate Christmas - off for a short New Year's trip - and now home to tend to some business and prepare for rug camp in a WHAAAAAT the next week!!!<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">First, for the New Year, I've joined some of my fellow stitchers and made a list of projects and WIP's (works in progress) that I would like to finish this year. Since I not only do cross stitch, my list includes knitting and rug hooking projects as well. Check out this <a href="http://www.workingtofinishin2011.blogspot.com/">link</a> to our new blog to see what everyone is planning to work on in 2011. Not sure whether I'll be doing "11 in 2011" or just attempting to finish 15 WIP's. Maybe a combo. Hopefully, I'll get my list up on the blog soon, but here's is the draft list in no particular order or priority:<br />
</div>- knit brown 'boyfriend' hat - gift<br />
- finish Quince &amp: Co. Kilkenny Cowl - gift<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">- finish blocks for Civil War Tribute Quilt and get top together</div>- Saturday Sampler blocks - assemble top, get quilted, and bind it<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">- finish Quince & Co. Osprey cardigan in Pomegranite</div>- knit another Purl Ridge Scarf in Sanguine Gryphon yarn or Plucky Knitter yarn (from stash)<br />
- finish Ulysses hooked rug<br />
- knit a pair of socks from the toe up<br />
- repro another cross-stitch design<br />
- finish The Primitive Needle's Cape Cod Girls - gift<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">- finish The Sampler Girl's At Home With Jane Austen - gift</div>- knit the Moody and Broody Club sweater (Dark and Stormy) in Plucky Knitter yarn<br />
- knit Clockwork scarf in Sanguine Gryphon yarn<br />
<br />
Not up to 15 yet, but I've got at least 12 other cross-stitch WIP's in one of my stitching bags, so I can always pull from there as I get a few of the above finished. Also, since I did want to start something on 1/1/11, I stitched part of the border of the 1st Anniversaries of the Heart by Blackbird Designs. I have one big piece of linen and am planning to stitch all of the designs on it. Of course, this could go on "The List", but certainly not as ONE project, when there are at least 12 separate designs and a few bonus designs. So this was just a "start" for now.<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">As for some old news - one of my trips took me to New Mexico in October - flying in on the very weekend that the Taos Wool Festival was taking place. Somehow, I convinced my husband that we had to spend a day in Taos before heading for Los Alamos for a week where he was going to attend a training class at the National Labs. It was a typical - gorgeous day and wonderful WOOLY event. Here are a few of my pictures.</div><br />

Just loved it! During the Manhattan Project days, there was only a P.O. Box in Sante Fe for Los Alamos, but as the place grew and the secret got out, they got their own Post Office. I believe their first Post Office was a small wooden structure, then it was replaced. This building is across the street from Starbucks, or should I say that they other way around??? Ha-Ha! But it was nice to sit outside with a Caramel Macchiotto and a piece of Pumpkin Bread and enjoy the view.</div><div align="left" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: center;"><br />

I got to visit twice during the week we stayed at nearby Los Alamos. It can easily be done as a day-trip from Sante Fe, which we have done in the past.</div><div align="left" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: center;"><br />

Now, the rain is gone and it's left a bit cooler weather - YEAH!!! So, here are some FO's (finished objects) from the recent past. It's difficult to put anything on the floor to photograph it without a cat checking it out and plopping down on it. So here is Little Eddie, not really so "Little" anymore, on a Mara shawl that was made for DF Judy and was sent off to her at the beginning of September. It's GREEN, so it's good!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Below is a small flag which was the first project of the Bread and Butter Society (a club using Kay Englund reproduction fabric). It was fun to do something small and get it quilted and bound in a few days! I've got the second project cut and partially sewn. Will have to finish it up later this month.</div><br />

I adapted the pattern a bit by adding their initials and the 30, and also used yellow instead of the called for red for the berries and heart because JH is a blue/yellow person. DF Mel did a great <a href="http://wooley-thoughts.blogspot.com/">post</a> about our fabulous birthday celebration and this is pictured among the gifts on the table.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TKM1PeEx5SI/AAAAAAAAAXM/IaemMQ5sRPU/s1600/Pictures+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" px="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TKM1PeEx5SI/AAAAAAAAAXM/IaemMQ5sRPU/s320/Pictures+002.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">I had some Malabrigo Aquarella (bulky thick/thin) yarn in the Solis colorway sitting around so I decided to do a circular scarf/cowl. This was a very quick knit on size 17 needles, I think. I purposely twisted the stitches on the first row before joining the row to knit in the round. This put a twist in the piece so when it's doubled up to be a cowl it lays nicely. It just so happened that when I went down to my LYS to leave it on the WALL of Malabrigo as a sample, they had a display form set up that had a wonderful necklace made of ladder yarn that matched my knitted piece. So how perfect was that???? for picture taking???? I wrote up the pattern, which is just the twist at the beginning and all worked in seed stitch, and left it at Knit or Knot for any takers. They have a good supply of this yarn and are always looking for ideas on how to use it.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

(inside)Since we decided to stay home for the Labor Day weekend and not travel, my husband and I went for a little day trip to Vero Beach on Friday before the long weekend. We wanted to have lunch at one of our fav restaurants, <a href="http://ocean-grill.com/~og/intro.html">The Ocean Grill</a>, and also hit the newly opened Fresh Market, a fabulous gourmet-style grocery store. I took a few pictures of the Ocean Grill so you can see why we like it. It's a noteworthly building right on the beach in Vero. I love all the wrought iron work that is on the walls and hanging around (lamps) and the mix of stained glass and pecky cypress walls and ceilings. A red and white striped awning welcomes you to the restaurant, with the beach just beyond. In the first room off to the left is a HUGE Florida Highwayman painting, then on to the next room, with a ginormous domed wrought iron piece hanging over a very large round table.<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgBLyhyJxI/AAAAAAAAAWc/TLlm-n6vmjs/s1600/Pictures+009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ox="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgBLyhyJxI/AAAAAAAAAWc/TLlm-n6vmjs/s320/Pictures+009.jpg" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgAe81_RmI/AAAAAAAAAV8/jkC8M0t-SQc/s1600/Pictures+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgAe81_RmI/AAAAAAAAAV8/jkC8M0t-SQc/s320/Pictures+003.jpg" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgAqCa3bHI/AAAAAAAAAWE/gc6ouHWSZvM/s1600/Pictures+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ox="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgAqCa3bHI/AAAAAAAAAWE/gc6ouHWSZvM/s320/Pictures+004.jpg" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgA3sF-LVI/AAAAAAAAAWM/jbPZMLCGOG8/s1600/Pictures+006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ox="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgA3sF-LVI/AAAAAAAAAWM/jbPZMLCGOG8/s320/Pictures+006.jpg" /></a><br />
More stained glass and a wonderful lamp hanging from the ceiling. Another fabulous stained glass piece with tropical fish above windows that separate dining rooms.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgBVW-Wa9I/AAAAAAAAAWk/_S-tmZNb1Xw/s1600/Pictures+013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ox="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgBVW-Wa9I/AAAAAAAAAWk/_S-tmZNb1Xw/s320/Pictures+013.jpg" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgBwfnbHEI/AAAAAAAAAWs/yMK_362kOdE/s1600/Pictures+016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ox="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgBwfnbHEI/AAAAAAAAAWs/yMK_362kOdE/s320/Pictures+016.jpg" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgBCNw_3zI/AAAAAAAAAWU/_gZsBXiyhOU/s1600/Pictures+005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ox="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgBCNw_3zI/AAAAAAAAAWU/_gZsBXiyhOU/s320/Pictures+005.jpg" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgCM9RYyKI/AAAAAAAAAW0/zk1illqG-Zc/s1600/Pictures+017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ox="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgCM9RYyKI/AAAAAAAAAW0/zk1illqG-Zc/s320/Pictures+017.jpg" /></a><br />
And my favorite stained glass oval that is set high above one of the main dining areas. The windows beyond the standing wait staff look out on the beach and the ocean. It's wonderful to be able to snag a window table, but there are lots of great other tables where you can not only see the water and beach, but enjoy the interiors as well.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgCfrk281I/AAAAAAAAAW8/OG1gnQkR-wc/s1600/Pictures+010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ox="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TIgCfrk281I/AAAAAAAAAW8/OG1gnQkR-wc/s320/Pictures+010.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Here's a close-up of the stained glass oval we enjoyed from our table while feasting on clams steamed in garlic and wine, a ceasar salad topped with sauted bay scallops, and FRENCH fried shrimp (not sure why they designated the shrimp as "french" fried, but the fried oysters on the menu, which they were out of, as just fried??? Whatever they want to call them, the fried shrimp were pretty close to a few of my fav shrimp-eatin' places, only you got fewer shrimp, but they were bigger.) Of course we finished the meal with a piece of key lime pie, which we've found to be one of the best key lime pies we've had, soaked graham cracker crumb crust and all.<br />
<br />
On to a visit to Fresh Market, a new store for Vero Beach, and the closest Fresh Market to us now. I always hit Fresh Market when I am in Jacksonville. So I loaded up on another bag of their Pumpkin Spice coffee (which I had just found at the Jax FM), a loaf of their 12 Grain Pumpernickle bread, a jar of their Blueberry Jam, and a pound of large-sized freshly caught Florida White Shrimp. It was a nice way to start a long weekend, and we were so glad that we went because we found out that the Ocean Grill was starting a two-week employee vacation and would be closed beginning Labor Day! So we had our OG fix for a while.<br />

The hundreds of half-square triangles from last month's Civil War Tribute blocks are still on my sewing table, but they have been piled high so as not to get in the way of this month's blocks and sewing. Here are this month's blocks and they are, done, done, done, and done! Four 12-1/2 inch blocks with 65 pieces in each. Bad picture, but I love the pink and chocolate (brown) fabrics used in these and that's probably why they got finished. They also got finished because I am not working on last month's blocks!!! AND am avoiding doing some stitching on a piece that must be completed soon!!! Doesn't everybody do that???</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxEYOJ6kNI/AAAAAAAAAVw/yYeDvTYJ53Q/s1600/MVC-020F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" ox="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxEYOJ6kNI/AAAAAAAAAVw/yYeDvTYJ53Q/s320/MVC-020F.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Here is the Saturday Sampler block that I whipped up the day after getting the new fabric packet several weeks ago and the first reason to pile up the evil CWT half-square triangles. The batiks for these SS blocks have been pretty and fun to work with. Besides only having to do ONE of these blocks a month, there are way less than 65 pieces in each block! Thank goodness.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxAE9l0VjI/AAAAAAAAAVg/qpwsxwCip1o/s1600/MVC-005F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" ox="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxAE9l0VjI/AAAAAAAAAVg/qpwsxwCip1o/s320/MVC-005F.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Otherwise, I've been knitting a lot. I have been taken in by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/">Ravelry</a> (an online community for knitters, those who crochet, and fiber enthusiasts) and probably spend more time looking around on there then actually knitting. BAAAAAd - - - BAAAAAAd!!! But I did find this scarf that I am addicted to: Just Enough Ruffles. Of course I've knit it in my fav yarn Malabrigo Worsted at least 3 times. It's shown here in the Plena colorway. Another JER scarf is down at my LYS hanging on their WALL of Malabrigo to seduce other knitters to this yarn. I've also knit a few more scarves using this pattern in other yarns which will be given away as gifts. So no photos of those right now, sorry.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxAM3dgUeI/AAAAAAAAAVk/cmg84jL7gM4/s1600/MVC-007F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxAM3dgUeI/AAAAAAAAAVk/cmg84jL7gM4/s320/MVC-007F.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>This is my Travelling Woman shawl, also a pattern found on Ravelry. I used the Malabrigo Sock yarn in Tiziano Red. I thought the lace pattern was pretty easy and the first half of it is very mindless. I still need to block it out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxAOzigwZI/AAAAAAAAAVo/eq0m5tYiHSY/s1600/Travelwmn.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" ox="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxAOzigwZI/AAAAAAAAAVo/eq0m5tYiHSY/s320/Travelwmn.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Another super quick project that I finished last week is the Cullin Cowl in Quince and Co.'s Puffin yarn, Peacock colorway. Puffin is their single ply bulky yarn that I used with #15 needles. I've got a small stash of each of the four yarns that Quince and Co. has put out so far and they are all pretty soft and nice to knit with. Even though I really love a lot of the hand-dyed and variegated colored yarns that are out there, QandCo.'s solid colorways are very nice and very enticing!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxARFGNKCI/AAAAAAAAAVs/CZBpkBFTCac/s1600/Cullincowl.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" ox="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxARFGNKCI/AAAAAAAAAVs/CZBpkBFTCac/s320/Cullincowl.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Lastly, I completed my Knit Along sweater two weeks before the deadline of July 31st. Thrilled about that! Thanks to some coaxing from several friends, I got through the 3/4 length sleeves, found a few buttons I liked, and got a picture sent in. Unfortunately, I didn't win the drawing for the basket of Classic Elite yarn that was the incentive to finish up. But now I'll have something to keep the cool air off me when I need to - if the blasting heat ever goes away - maybe in 3 or so months.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxAA3AFgLI/AAAAAAAAAVc/u_C4HuZnflU/s1600/MVC-002F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TGxAA3AFgLI/AAAAAAAAAVc/u_C4HuZnflU/s320/MVC-002F.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>When loading these pictures up for this entry, I came across a bunch that were related to a trip I took to Tallahassee a few months ago. I'll try to get those up soon. Okay, now I guess I better get to that stitching project I've been avoiding and MUST get done! LOL!beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418946073002267273.post-83068036402051041292010-07-16T16:42:00.001-04:002010-07-16T16:43:55.429-04:00Bermuda Triangles???<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TEC6eu2qVMI/AAAAAAAAAU8/IvMoRQ_R_58/s1600/IMG_0130.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hw="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/TEC6eu2qVMI/AAAAAAAAAU8/IvMoRQ_R_58/s320/IMG_0130.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Help! I've been remiss in posting because I've been lost in the sea of these hundreds of half-square triangles. I was getting behind with my Civil War Tribute blocks, so in June I decided I better make my way up to the <a href="http://www.jampatch.blogspot.com/">Jam Patch</a> and spend a few hours cutting out the blocks for that month. Most of the time, the cutting process is THE work. Fortunately, I was successful in getting almost everything cut that was needed for the 8 blocks. Then home to start sewing. . . and sewing. . . and sewing. . . Weeks later, with my head barely above sea level, 256 half-square triangles are complete - some ironed open, some not yet. Then they all have to be trimmed to 1-13/16ths! Think it's going to be another few weeks for these blocks to get done because these are the BIG half-sqaure triangles in the blocks. There are another 14 hst's in each block that are in the center area. 14 x 8 = 112 I guess I better suit up with a life preserver next time I hit my sewing room for a session. HaHa!</div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">But in the meantime, I did get my Sampler Saturday block done. These blocks are pretty easy and only take an hour or less to do. So at least SOMETHING has been accomplished!</div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

The Space Shuttle had a flight path to land at the Cape that brought it up the middle of peninsular Florida and a lot of us got to hear the sonic boom it creates. Actually, this time it was a BOOM - BOOM! Cayenne was on the back porch and was quite disturbed by the noise. I quickly let her in the house and explained that Atlantis is just coming back home, but she was having none of it - slinking around with a slightly puffed tail!<br />
Anyway . . . . <br />
<br />
On Friday, May 14th I headed up to Cocoa Beach with my DF Sheri for the last launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis. There are only two more shuttle launchs left, so we didn't want to miss out. We got up there with enough time to grab a sandwich from Subway's and settle in at her condo before 2:20 p.m. and the launch. It was a gorgeous day and we heard on the TV that record crowds had come out to see the shuttle go off - 300,000. We were not disappointed. <br />

Not something that happens in my backyard at home. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Following the excitement of the launch, we took to the living room couches and watched the SPEED channel until it was time to go out for an early dinner at one of the local seafood restaurants. DF Sheri returned with leftovers which got quickly stowed. Here's a picture of half of her kitchen with the great FLORIDA wallpaper which looks like those "vintage" tablecloths of the 40's or 50's. I just love it.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_vm-_KRJhI/AAAAAAAAAUc/SXgAMhv_yIk/s1600/IMG_0070.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="cssfloat: left; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" gu="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_vm-_KRJhI/AAAAAAAAAUc/SXgAMhv_yIk/s320/IMG_0070.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">The next morning we were up and out and off to Historic Cocoa Village, about 15 minutes west of Cocoa Beach. Cocoa Village is along the Indian River with a nice Riverfront Park. It's several blocks long and wide with an old theater, restaurants/cafes, and shops - including Knit and Stitch! The goal - have a bit of breakfast and shop for YARN! When we got to the area, we found a few streets blocked off and discovered that there was a craft fair going on. We were lucky to slide into a newly vacated parking spot and then we headed for a bite to eat. I captured a picture of this mural on the side of the building of one of the nice, old restaurants in the Village area - The Black Tulip.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_vnFVX7bgI/AAAAAAAAAUk/WMlxJwgM8-A/s1600/IMG_0071.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" gu="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_vnFVX7bgI/AAAAAAAAAUk/WMlxJwgM8-A/s320/IMG_0071.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">After a breakfast treat of a warmed egg, cheese and spinach pastry at the corner cafe, Ossorio's, I crossed the street and dove into <a href="http://www.knitandstitchboutique.com/">Knit and Stitch Boutique</a> at 15 Stone Street. Sheri hit the streets to peruse the booths of the craft fair. Knit and Stitch is a fairly small shop with both yarn (lots of it) and cross-stitch. The yarn is on one wall and in the back of the shop and the cross-stitch is along the other wall. In between are several displays and a very large, conference room, sized table with lots of high-backed leather chairs around it. Since the shop had just opened and not many people were there yet, I was able to maneuver along the wall of yarn behind the leather chairs and see the "selection". I found some Cascade 220 that I was looking for to make another Mara shawl for a present, some Cascade 220 Handpainted, and a few skeins of Ella Rae sock yarn in a nice dusty rose color. I also picked up a DellaQ knitting bag. Here's a picture of the wall of yarn and one shot toward the back of the shop, which turned out blurry, but has saved me from cutting out people's faces. The shop has a really nice selection of yarns, but unfortunately when customers are seated at the large table it pretty much prevents shopping THE WALL. Soon after I arrived, a class started at one end of this table and several other customers took to the chairs at the other end of the table. I was glad that I already had my pile that I was taking home with me!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_vnK2wO86I/AAAAAAAAAUs/IIs9bSbWSQ8/s1600/IMG_0072.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="cssfloat: right; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" gu="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_vnK2wO86I/AAAAAAAAAUs/IIs9bSbWSQ8/s320/IMG_0072.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_vnR_OnGnI/AAAAAAAAAU0/D93T0cx71ZY/s1600/IMG_0073.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="cssfloat: right; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" gu="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_vnR_OnGnI/AAAAAAAAAU0/D93T0cx71ZY/s320/IMG_0073.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">On the way home, we stopped off at Indian River Community College in Ft. Pierce and went to a show at the <a href="http://www.irsc.edu/portal/layout_web1.aspx?AdminEdit=False&PortalPageID=182">Hallstrom Planetarium</a>. Their programs are always fun and very educational. So it was a HEAVENLY two days - the shuttle off into space, out of this world seafood, heavenly, heavenly yarn, and time spent studying the stars!</div>beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418946073002267273.post-22756285117601314382010-05-18T17:10:00.004-04:002010-05-18T17:21:17.000-04:00Back On The Road - Part 1Two weekends ago I was flying up I-95 again. I haven't been on a road trip in months since I've been battling pain in my right foot and leg due to a heel spur and driving doesn't seem to help. So I was really looking forward to a weekend away to attend the North Florida Rug Hooking Guild's Spring Hook In. First stop was Flagler Beach to meet my DF Henri at one of my fav restaurants, Blue. As I approached Flagler Beach, I remembered it was Friday and their Farmer's Market was in full swing, which could only mean that Shelley of <a href="http://www.mybolgabaskets.com/">My Bolga Baskets</a> would be there manning (or I should say, WOmanning) her booth. I tried to turn to go south BEFORE the market, but for some reason the car kept going straight and I got a glimpse of her booth with all the colorful baskets hanging and more baskets lined up on the ground. In the next blink of an eye, I was turning the corner and my car was sliding into an empty parking spot on one of the otherwise packed side streets by the market. OH MY! I guess I needed to check out THE booth! I snagged a new shaped basket, new to me, and another U-shopper basket, which is my favorite shape to hold my cross-stitch patterns and projects in. This one had Amish quilt colors, so I had to add it to the "collection". <br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_KKYFrHdDI/AAAAAAAAASc/JAlBCEMdvzA/s1600/IMG_0058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_KKYFrHdDI/AAAAAAAAASc/JAlBCEMdvzA/s320/IMG_0058.jpg" wt="true" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I quickly resumed the trip and arrived at Blue just as DF Henri was heading for the restaurant. Since it was in the mid-80's (the heat is already on here), we decided to sit inside and had a lovely view of the ocean from the window.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_KKd4X8PlI/AAAAAAAAASk/pQh0TZL00DE/s1600/IMG_0042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_KKd4X8PlI/AAAAAAAAASk/pQh0TZL00DE/s320/IMG_0042.jpg" wt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">And here's a picture of the side of the building where the restaurant is. It's not a stand alone establishment, but is part of The Topaz, a hotel along south A1A.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_KKkxvh5NI/AAAAAAAAASs/UmLGgqkuSbM/s1600/IMG_0043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_KKkxvh5NI/AAAAAAAAASs/UmLGgqkuSbM/s320/IMG_0043.jpg" wt="true" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Following a great lunch, we drove west on SR 100 to <a href="http://www.sewandquiltshop.com/">Sew and Quilt</a>, a quilt shop that I first stopped at on the way home from rug camp in January. The shop recently added yarn to their offerings, so we had to check it out. No yarn purchases, but I did end up getting two yards of Bali Batiks to add to "stash". It was time to move on to points north and as I was heading to I-95 to resume the trip, I noticed that I was following my favorite driver!!! Hey, I was even going to pass him! Adios, Jr.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_KQkactVcI/AAAAAAAAATE/e1cUpihswl0/s1600/jronroad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_KQkactVcI/AAAAAAAAATE/e1cUpihswl0/s320/jronroad.jpg" wt="true" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">3 p.m. and it's Jacksonville! I jumped into DF Melody's vehicle and we were off to Macclenny to the <a href="http://www.localneedle.com/">Local Needle</a>. My Knit Along project was with me so I could show Joan, the owner, in between checking out her new stock. We decided not to stay for the shop's Friday night open knitting and headed back to town to hit Biscotti's (another fav of mine) for dinner. We indulged ourselves in their fabulous cheese plate and it wasn't until almost the last almond and apricot were gone that I remembered - A PICTURE!!! So here is what was left of our 2-cheese plate of "Vintage" - 5 year old aged Gouda (gone) and "Maytag Blue" - blue cheese from Iowa, I believe (still a bit left). It was deeeeelish! A glass of Riesling for each of us helped to make the experience another memorable one at Biscotti's.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_L1nqLGr1I/AAAAAAAAATU/T3Sh7CWoKR4/s1600/IMG_0045.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_L1nqLGr1I/AAAAAAAAATU/T3Sh7CWoKR4/s320/IMG_0045.jpg" wt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">The Hook In on Saturday was fun and well attended. I got to catch up with lots of friends, the food was good, great desserts, and even got some hooking in. I was having so much fun, I totally forgot to take any pictures. Sunday was Mother's Day and I joined DF Melody and her family in celebrating her mother, Jane, at brunch in the Riverside neighborhood of Jacksonville. Melody covered our experience in her <a href="http://wooley-thoughts.blogspot.com/">blog post</a> so I won't go into it. Later that afternoon, we drove down to <a href="http://www.hanksyarn.com/">Hanks</a>, another of our fav yarn stores in Gainesville. Here are a few pics - their wall of sock yarn, a shot of a gorgeous Kromski spinning wheel in one of their windows, and a close-up of a very cool sock, which I caved and got the pattern for. It was knit in my fav yarn, Malabrigo - the sock weight.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_L10Dhp16I/AAAAAAAAATc/0PjWEXHzkLY/s1600/IMG_0046.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_L10Dhp16I/AAAAAAAAATc/0PjWEXHzkLY/s320/IMG_0046.jpg" wt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_L2FB-r5SI/AAAAAAAAATs/p5jrWae7XoY/s1600/IMG_0048.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_L2FB-r5SI/AAAAAAAAATs/p5jrWae7XoY/s320/IMG_0048.jpg" wt="true" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_L1-8KcfzI/AAAAAAAAATk/YqsVRYvhbOQ/s1600/IMG_0049.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S_L1-8KcfzI/AAAAAAAAATk/YqsVRYvhbOQ/s320/IMG_0049.jpg" wt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">And here is the other basket I picked up loaded with most of my weekend loot! Bali fabric, gorgeous Dream in Color yarn, ShiBui sock yarn, a new spindle, and a few skeins of Malabrigo sock yarn in a yummy dark blue grey green. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I was even able to get in a visit with my uncle on the way home on Monday. I got to see his pictures and hear about his one-day trip to Washington D.C. that happened on that Saturday - two days earlier. He was part of a contingent of World War II veterans who made the trip up to see the new WWII Memorial as well as a few other sites. It was exciting for him and he had great time. Since I was just putting the finishing touches on my new pattern, Mary Bagley, I decided to pull a few of them out and work on them. Ellen Birdseye by The Goode Huswife, pictured above, was one of the WIPs. I think I started it in the late 1990's!!! Well, it's done now and ready to be framed. Another WIP was The Mustard Door by the Goode Huswife, which actually was done, but the framing wasn't finished. So, that is now done and it's up on the wall, next to a lovely fraktur.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S8RXsWDgCKI/AAAAAAAAASE/3WH2EpPCFd4/s1600/mustard.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S8RXsWDgCKI/AAAAAAAAASE/3WH2EpPCFd4/s320/mustard.JPG" wt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And finally, no longer a WIP, is a Sheepish Designs piece entitled, Time Has Wings. As I completed it last week, the message became so personal. Two of my family members are dealing with serious health issues and TIME has definitely been an issue. Hopefully, I'll have a little more time to hunt up a few more WIPs and get them done!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S8RXxeEm9WI/AAAAAAAAASM/FlK-ccYHtBE/s1600/MVC-023F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S8RXxeEm9WI/AAAAAAAAASM/FlK-ccYHtBE/s320/MVC-023F.JPG" wt="true" /></a></div>beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418946073002267273.post-17535650270274029352010-03-29T18:31:00.000-04:002010-03-29T18:31:54.392-04:00Antiquarian Book Fair<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />

My Mother-in-Law had been to this annual event many times, but she didn't want to make the trip by herself. So, my husband and I decided to drive her over and make a weekend out of it. We've been to Tampa many times, but never to St. Petersburg. I have been to St. Petersburg Beach, but that's further west. We drove across the state in the rain on that Friday and the weather cleared up just as we hit the Book Fair for the opening night.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I loved the Women's room, which was done in black and white tile and small hexagon tiles on the floor. It reminded me of the bathroom in Grand Central Station - from years ago.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S7EVZExqfNI/AAAAAAAAARM/cwBbFybzDD0/s1600/DSC00255.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" nt="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S7EVZExqfNI/AAAAAAAAARM/cwBbFybzDD0/s320/DSC00255.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The vendor area was fully decorated and it was nice that it wasn't that crowded. We enjoyed looking through the booths of books, maps and some prints.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S7EVhpcr4aI/AAAAAAAAARU/_D54KWyjHa0/s1600/DSC00256.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" nt="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S7EVhpcr4aI/AAAAAAAAARU/_D54KWyjHa0/s320/DSC00256.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I loved seeing the children's books and the first booth I stopped in had a copy of "Strawberry Girl" by Lois Lenski prominently displayed and for sale for several hundred dollars. I remember reading it when I was in grade school. I recalled that I read a lot of Lois Lenski's books, but I particularly remember that one because it inspired me to plant my own strawberry patch when I was 11 or 12. Of course that copy didn't come home with me, but I did get it from the library last week to re-read.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S7EVzPa-0PI/AAAAAAAAARs/WO9VgM4KqVI/s1600/strawgirl.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" nt="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S7EVzPa-0PI/AAAAAAAAARs/WO9VgM4KqVI/s320/strawgirl.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We went back to the Fair on Saturday morning to check out the booths we didn't get to on Friday night. Since my husband's mantra the whole drive over was, "We are not bringing anything home!" My MIL and I had been calibrated and only ended up buying one book each and my husband did agree to buying one book as a Christmas present. We were clearly restrained!!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The rest of Saturday we spent driving around the downtown area and then visiting a very nice nature preserve that was around a large lake just south of downtown. On Sunday we headed back across the state and stopped in Arcadia for an hour or so. Just off the major route, in the historical area, are two-three blocks of antique shops. My MIL and I were able to get through a number of shops before we were ushered back to the car to resume the trip home. I'll have to try to get back there sometime because there were lots of shops and STUFF to see.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S7EV5o3FmvI/AAAAAAAAAR0/KmcJGTKp2Kw/s1600/kal2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" nt="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S7EV5o3FmvI/AAAAAAAAAR0/KmcJGTKp2Kw/s320/kal2.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is my Classic Elite Yarn Knit Along project. Kind of looks just. . . BLUE. But I think I'd mentioned that I'd post my progress. I've got a few more inches to knit on the body and then I'll start on one of the sleeves. There is double moss stitch around the neck and a front button placket is also done in double moss stitch. It's been a fun project so far.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S7EWB6eLG3I/AAAAAAAAAR8/cx6uOc7WmgA/s1600/kalclose.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" nt="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S7EWB6eLG3I/AAAAAAAAAR8/cx6uOc7WmgA/s320/kalclose.JPG" /></a></div>beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418946073002267273.post-89116612707180229542010-03-09T11:18:00.000-05:002010-03-09T11:18:42.032-05:00Winter Visitor<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S5ZlvTS2eiI/AAAAAAAAAQc/U8gY7khpKgE/s1600-h/MVC-018F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S5ZlvTS2eiI/AAAAAAAAAQc/U8gY7khpKgE/s320/MVC-018F.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Our Winter resident Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is back and still working on the Turkey Oak, which in years past he's done a number on. Rows and rows of little holes up and down the trunk and branches of this tree in our backyard. A very ambitious fellow, but kind of hard to see - right in the middle of the picture.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I've been a bit ambitious myself in the past few weeks. With the cold snaps we've been having, I decided that I needed to finish stitching down the binding of my latest quilt so I could USE it! My "Big Print Pazazz" was not done in big prints, but in Bali fabrics I liked - 2 yard cut strips going wide to thin one way and thin to wide the other way across. Pretty simple and it helped to get me back into sewing a bit last year. I added in a few of the light thin strips to make the top wider. It has a Bali green backing - one of their 108" wide fabrics. I had it machine quilted with loops and leaves at the <a href="http://www.oldegreencupboard.com/">Olde Green Cupboard</a> in December. The binding was put on at the end of January and I've have been working on hand stitching it down off and on since then. It's done now, except I do need to make a label for it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S5Zlhp_9GmI/AAAAAAAAAQE/ie7tBGjG4cw/s1600-h/MVC-021F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S5Zlhp_9GmI/AAAAAAAAAQE/ie7tBGjG4cw/s320/MVC-021F.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S5ZllUX3C7I/AAAAAAAAAQM/ZduwY92GLKU/s320/MVC-014F.JPG" vt="true" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The quilting is hard to see, but it's there and it's lovely.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Otherwise, I've been knitting - working on a Knit Along sweater that the <a href="http://www.localneedle.com/">Local Needle</a> is doing. I'm using the Classic Elite yarn that the pattern calls for, Soltice, which is mostly an organic cotton. Love the yarn - nice and soft. The sweater is knit from the top down - something new for me - but the pattern is pretty clear if you pay careful attention! I didn't even notice that the pattern was labeled as "Experienced" until I had most of the yoke done. Good thing that I AM experienced, since I can't exactly breeze on up to the shop to get help or ask questions (the shop is 4+hours away). I'll try to get a picture up of this WIP soon.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">With the chilly weather, Cayenne and Little Eddie have been somewhat confined to quarters - driving me crazy! One day I actually had to get in my car and leave to get some peace. They have been rather hesitant to go flying out the back sliding door onto the porch and be faced with the cold of 40 degrees. But usually by the afternoon, with the sun on part of the porch, they've been braving it. I'll leave you with a picture of them in "alert mode". What's out there in OUR backyard? Hopefully no burmese pythons passing through!</div><div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Here's my FINISHED freebie of the recent <a href="http://www.blackbird-designs.blogspot.com/">Blackbird Designs</a> piece. I started it Friday night and then stitched all afternoon Saturday, while watching the Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch marathon in memory of Captain Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie. In between, of course, I checked out the Nationwide Race at Fontana, CA, but Danica Patrick was driving around in the back of the pack, so I was only partly paying attention.<br />
Love the thread colors in this piece (WDW Red Rocks and Terra Cotta) and I worked it on a scrap of 32 ct. Lakeside Vintage Buttercream (at least that's my guess). While I was stitching it, I thought I'd perhaps use it to make a needle case with some repro fabric, but when I went to THE ROOM to look at the fabric possibilities, I came across a Primitive Traditions frame that fit the piece perfectly. So the decision was made!<br />

I forgot all about this piece that I made last month. At the January rug camp, we were able to take a class with Kay Kjeldgaard of Kay's Crafts to make her 5" Snippet Basket. It's a Nantucket-style basket. Since our class was only 2 hours long, and this was really a 4 hour class, she thankfully prepped each piece by gluing in the spokes and starting the cane weavers. Some of us still had some issues with the spokes popping out, but after some glue and patience, we were good to go. I got most of my basket woven during the class, but had to finish it off, with guidance, the next day. The cane was dyed, so the interior has the more solid side where the dye totally took, and the outside of the basket is more mottled, where the dye took here and there. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S38MRtbZ9ZI/AAAAAAAAAPc/A1J5YuhHrTs/s1600-h/MVC-002F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ct="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S38MRtbZ9ZI/AAAAAAAAAPc/A1J5YuhHrTs/s320/MVC-002F.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S38MN5JQZSI/AAAAAAAAAPU/LYSfuIH_ZTQ/s1600-h/MVC-001F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ct="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S38MN5JQZSI/AAAAAAAAAPU/LYSfuIH_ZTQ/s320/MVC-001F.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It has a nice wooden bottom, into which a wonderful little piece of scrimshaw was inserted. Since I already have another of her baskets with a rug hooking hook scrimshaw piece, I chose a lighthouse. This basket is now on my sewing table next to my machine and is used for thread snippets and trimmed fabric pieces. Love it!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Well, since we are on the subject of baskets. . . . . Here's a few pictures of my REALLY favorite type of basket. A basket full of garlic knots from one of my local restaurants. These "evil" knots are made from pizza dough and covered in a mixture of olive oil, garlic, and parmesan cheese. YUM! They are rather hard to come by this month, because the area is swarming with snowbirds and tourists. Waiting lists for restaurants and no parking - the downside of life in South Florida in the "Winter".</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S38SJSnh3KI/AAAAAAAAAP0/QRMQj_sAlbk/s1600-h/MVC-005F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ct="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S38SJSnh3KI/AAAAAAAAAP0/QRMQj_sAlbk/s320/MVC-005F.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

This is one of my vintage valentines (signed on the back by a young Walter) and a great "find" for me - a lamb AND a bee and beehive!!! WeeOOOOO! Hope all you Honey-Lambs have a wonderful day and get to spend time doing whatever you want! Me? I'll be watching the Daytona 500 and maybe knitting a bit during the commercials. Have fun!<br /><br /><div></div>beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418946073002267273.post-23434685101494484052010-02-02T10:59:00.007-05:002010-02-02T11:52:21.323-05:00The Shadow Knows!Happy Groundhog's Day! Punxsutawney Phil was up and out this a.m. seeing his shadow and indicating 6 more weeks of Winter. Here are my two household 'hogs' who are also seeing their shadows - not the early risers like Phil however.<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S2hMyToNmeI/AAAAAAAAAO8/P5Ic103T9OI/s1600-h/shadowseen.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433677377568610786" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S2hMyToNmeI/AAAAAAAAAO8/P5Ic103T9OI/s320/shadowseen.JPG" /></a> And of course, NO ONE roams around here without the strict supervision of the Canine Patrol, headed by Officer Cayenne! Who are these guys? And why are they looking at shadows? Move along please.<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S2hMsEuUprI/AAAAAAAAAO0/mWigPYDrFDc/s1600-h/Cayenneandhogs.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 218px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433677270488491698" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S2hMsEuUprI/AAAAAAAAAO0/mWigPYDrFDc/s320/Cayenneandhogs.JPG" /></a> Even though more Winter is predicted (it's in the 70's here???), I've already seen several butterflies. The cats are huge Butterfly hunters while on the screened porch - running back and forth to follow their flight through the backyard! Yesterday I saw a gorgeous moth emerging. I say moth, because it's body was large and antennae were furry. Nothing as delicate as a butterfly. Earlier in the day, it was on the screen of the porch and I thought it was a large beetle-type bug. Later I noticed it was not. Unfortunately, between it's lower back wing that didn't seem to be fully functional and the drizzling rain, it was not having a good day. I'll have to keep an eye out for more of these guys - just gorgeous.<br /><br /><div><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S2hMmH0J-1I/AAAAAAAAAOs/p7czQk_Ctv0/s1600-h/moth02012010.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433677168239049554" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S2hMmH0J-1I/AAAAAAAAAOs/p7czQk_Ctv0/s320/moth02012010.JPG" /></a>And here's a final critter - from an ad that a friend sent me. No, he's not a groundhog, but surely a relative. Those are little chain saws as his teeth! Rather appropriate for the boy.<br /><br /><div><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S2hMLXT5B6I/AAAAAAAAAOc/xZSx_W7Yi2g/s1600-h/phillikenew.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 277px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433676708542220194" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S2hMLXT5B6I/AAAAAAAAAOc/xZSx_W7Yi2g/s320/phillikenew.jpg" /></a> And speaking of SEASONS, the countdown has begun and it's only a few more days now until the Bud Shootout and Speedweeks, culminating in the Daytona 500 and the beginning of the 2010 NASCAR racing season. AHHHHHH. . . . lots of Sunday afternoons of watching races and stitching, knitting, and possibly rug hooking!!! My kind of season!</div></div></div></div>beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418946073002267273.post-54058422772561686362010-01-25T11:06:00.009-05:002010-01-25T12:04:39.241-05:00Post-Holiday ReportI am finally getting caught up following the holidays and it's almost already FEBRUARY!!! Before Christmas, my DSL modem was acting up. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting to get on the web, so I didn't get to post a "MERRY CHRISTMAS" to all :-((( Then I took off for Christmas. This year, I spent it in North Carolina with my Mother and Sister. A VERY long drive up I-95 and even longer back (West Virginia fans going to the Gator Bowl). It was pretty cold up there most of the time for this Floridian (little did I know that I would come home to a historic cold streak in South Florida! Brrrrrrr! My Malabrigo shawl was around me every night.)<br /><br />As I have mentioned my 'sista' loves mermaids, and her Christmas tree for the past several years has been a mermaid-themed tree - with the addition this year of a new topper - Glinda, the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz - NOT a mermaid to be sure, but a great guardian of all on land and under the sea and now beyond Oz! Here is an shot of the tree which is about 4 feet high and sits atop a table over which there is a gorgeous sea green lame skirt.<br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S13CBKbS0nI/AAAAAAAAAOU/N--kZHA65J8/s1600-h/DSC00220.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430710050913178226" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S13CBKbS0nI/AAAAAAAAAOU/N--kZHA65J8/s320/DSC00220.JPG" /></a> The troll mermaid I snagged off of eBay for my sista and is one of my favorites, having grown up with a collection of trolls and spent time making outfits for them - early sewing memories. . . . Think that's a dressed up flamingo in the upper left and to the right is one of the merMAN ornaments - which kind of creep me out because they remind me of the VILLAGE PEOPLE!<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S13B6WXEzhI/AAAAAAAAAOM/FU0vGNfPe_k/s1600-h/DSC00221.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430709933857623570" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S13B6WXEzhI/AAAAAAAAAOM/FU0vGNfPe_k/s320/DSC00221.JPG" /></a> Here's my other favorite ornament on her tree. King Neptune! He was just gorgeous, and very Santa-like with the white beard.<br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S13B0Ygy9PI/AAAAAAAAAOE/Rvfu37U5J-0/s1600-h/DSC00222.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430709831356052722" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/S13B0Ygy9PI/AAAAAAAAAOE/Rvfu37U5J-0/s320/DSC00222.JPG" /></a>Just after the New Year, my friend's, who now live in France, arrived for a visit. They were supremely ripped off, since it was during the EXTREME cold snap. No SULTRY weather here! Certainly, better than Pittsburgh, where they had been before coming down to Florida, but still. . . . As soon as they flew back to France it started to warm up and I was back in the car driving up I-95 again to Jacksonville to attend Off the Ocean Rug Camp. DF Melody has a great report on camp, so check out her <a href="http://wooley-thoughts.blogspot.com/">blog</a>, and if I find any additional pictures on my camera, I'll post them.</div><div>I had a great time and made a few more new-to-me discoveries in Jacksonville - a restaurant, an antique mall, and a sewing store. So more places to go on my next visit!!!</div></div>beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418946073002267273.post-62290966820989117772009-12-14T09:00:00.008-05:002009-12-14T10:25:53.580-05:00Holiday Party and New Pattern!!!BIG day - Saturday! Always In Stitches, my LNS, had a Holiday Party. The party included a sale on all sampler designs, and as a special treat, Carole, the shop owner, decided to display a few samplers from her collection - just the tip of the iceberg! I have seen almost all of the samplers individually that she hung, but it was a bit overwhelming and exciting to see them all together! Here's what customers were greeted by as they entered the shop.<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SyZGEvBQWqI/AAAAAAAAANY/HvBq_meNgmo/s1600-h/DSC00217.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415092649114753698" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SyZGEvBQWqI/AAAAAAAAANY/HvBq_meNgmo/s320/DSC00217.JPG" /></a><br />Then a few more beauties - a Quaker from 1799, a small Shaker sampler, a large example from the Philadelphia area, and several Maryland samplers.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SyZF5Dr3B6I/AAAAAAAAANQ/lpZuihbGvHY/s1600-h/DSC00212.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415092448503728034" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SyZF5Dr3B6I/AAAAAAAAANQ/lpZuihbGvHY/s320/DSC00212.JPG" /></a> On the ever-welcoming table were Hannah Horsfall and Ann Kitching, both done at the Ackworth School in England, that I have reproduced. Along with the originals of HH and AK were Ann's stitched pieces of both! Very fun to see together and celebrate.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SyZFvfBhT5I/AAAAAAAAANI/W_Qvqr7webs/s1600-h/DSC00211.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415092284043644818" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SyZFvfBhT5I/AAAAAAAAANI/W_Qvqr7webs/s320/DSC00211.JPG" /></a> And last, but certainly not least, was a small sampler by Mary Bagley dated 1808. I loved the flowered urns, crowns, birds, and other motifs and was not alone in this. Carole has allowed me to reproduce it and my rendering is just below the original. I finished stitching it the night before (of course) and threw it in a frame that I "altered" so it could be at the shop for the party. It will be my new pattern and I expect to complete it for release in January - available at Always In Stitches (of course)!<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SyZFjztiqII/AAAAAAAAANA/UYMhyfYs7Xs/s1600-h/DSC00214.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415092083438561410" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SyZFjztiqII/AAAAAAAAANA/UYMhyfYs7Xs/s320/DSC00214.JPG" /></a> Here's a close-up. It's stitched on 40 ct. Vintage Navy Bean by Lakeside Linens using DMC, but a conversion to NPI silks will be included in the pattern.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SyZFYZ_rxmI/AAAAAAAAAM4/FALnURfMDw0/s1600-h/DSC00216.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415091887556773474" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SyZFYZ_rxmI/AAAAAAAAAM4/FALnURfMDw0/s320/DSC00216.JPG" /></a> Okay, I better get to wrapping some Christmas presents and get stuff out in the mail. Last night I threw together my 11th block of the Block of the Month that I'm participating in. Only one more block to go! Yeah! But it's a doozey - 53 pieces in it - ugh! Do I HAVE to???</div></div></div></div>beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418946073002267273.post-48043533158905641612009-12-09T09:32:00.002-05:002009-12-09T09:47:10.940-05:00Baby Bee Skep<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/Sx-35DyIOCI/AAAAAAAAAMw/61H_6XOhi0U/s1600-h/MVC-001F.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5413247468018612258" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/Sx-35DyIOCI/AAAAAAAAAMw/61H_6XOhi0U/s320/MVC-001F.JPG" /></a><br /><div>My DF Henrietta stitched me this piece a month or so ago. It's all over ONE (probably on 28 ct.)! It came to me in the mail with a BEE-themed card that she made - also a treasure! I framed the piece yesterday. I have long admired the little stitched bee skep that Henri has framed and on the wall in her kitchen. She was kind enough to make sure that I have my very own. I'll have to find a permanent home for it on one of my walls - one where I see it EVERY day!</div><div>Thanks again, HONEY!</div>beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418946073002267273.post-11055304660106305982009-11-26T00:19:00.006-05:002009-11-26T00:30:54.205-05:00Take a moment. . .and give thanks for all the wonderful blessings you've received this year. It was a present for my sister for her recent birthday. She loves mermaids. Yes, Yes, I know, I should be doing one of those GORGEOUS Mirabilia mermaids for her, and actually, I do have the graphs for at least TWO of those babes. Maybe if I start in 2010 I might get one done for her next BIG birthday, which would be in 2018!!! Ya think??? Hmmmmm. . . . .<br /><br />Anyway, I was so excited to get this in the mail - EARLY - that I forgot to take a picture of it. Nothing like getting something all gift wrapped and then boxed to go to the Post Office and THEN remembering you need a picture of it! UGH! So she sent me the picture after she opened it for HER day. She loved it - of course!<br /><br />It is BY THE OCEAN WITH JANE AUSTEN by <a href="http://www.thesamplergirl.com/">The Sampler Girl</a>. A pretty quick and easy stitch. I did a few color changes - like putting some of the red/dark coral in the motif on the right, so that it would match the frame. The frame is an old Hog River frame that was made for a Christmas design, but it just happened to be a good size fit for the piece and I thought the painted gold circles looked a bit like air bubbles bubbling up from under the sea - so it worked for me. Plus, the frame color is pretty close to what I remember as the color of my sister's bedroom walls. As it turns out, the frame color is so close to her bedroom wall color she's hung the piece on her closet door which is white and provides the necessary contrast.<br /><br />Am off to a rug hooking retreat at the Olde Green Cupboard. I'll be collecting the $25 gift certificate that I won at the end of August. Gee, I wonder how many days I'll have that before it's spent??? Not many to NONE! It's a new event location for Mancuso Show Management - the BIG quilt show people. Hopefully, it was well attended so they will consider it again for next year. Classes were also offered by local and nationally-known teachers. I stopped on the way south to pick up THE TRIO (AD, DM and SM), who I was honored to be joining for the day! Once we got into the convention center, we bee-lined it for the Olde Green Cupboard's booth to visit with Gloria and Jill. Gloria was busy cutting out pieces for an English Paper Piecing project, Jill had her hoop and was needle punching away, and Sue was demonstrating Locker Hooking. We all just started to drool at the quilts/quilt kits/folk art - most of which is not offered at their store. The booth was my favorite - as I expected - since lots of other shops focused on the tropical look, I guess, since it is SOUTH Florida, duh! Not really MY thing. We shopped, perused the quilts from all over the world, grabbed sandwiches for lunch, and then re-visited our favorite booths. I ran into several people that I haven't seen in 10+ years. Here's two shots of the OGC's booth.</div><div></div><br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405119016062824242" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SwLXG4kiLzI/AAAAAAAAALo/KDoKrtgULDk/s320/DSC00176.JPG" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405118906809936594" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SwLXAhknatI/AAAAAAAAALg/mnyGSl8pCm4/s320/DSC00177.JPG" /></div><br /><div>My favorite quilt: Pennsylvania Palette (made by a quilter from Maine) - it was made with repro fabric of a typical 1890's PA quilt, with the tiny yellow, bubble-gum pink, and blue prints, as well as a great red paisley fabric for the borders (a repro from earlier in the 1800's). It won an award for Best Use of Color. I was drawn to it because I own a few PA quilts using those original fabrics - one of the first antique PA quilts that I bought was a bar quilt with bubble-gum pink and yellow bars. Think I have a Lone Star quilt from PA using the pink, yellow, and blue, too!</div><div> </div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405118733837365506" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SwLW2dMvcQI/AAAAAAAAALY/_1ucgKDL9Qk/s320/DSC00181.JPG" /><br /><div></div><div>It was a fun day (helping out the economy a bit) and as always, lots of laughs with these three women. After leaving the convention center, there was a question as to whether someone left their cell phone at a booth or somewhere else in the center. As I was trying to concentrate on getting onto I-95 going north, AD (in the front passenger seat) was calling SM's cell phone. SM was in the back seat of the car. We all heard her phone ringing, so that was good, but SM could not find it in her purse!!! It took DM to fish it out of the purse. As if I hadn't understood before, it was clear to me then why these three are ALWAYS together!!! Ha-Ha! Even though I was somewhat doubled over the car's steering wheel laughing, we made it up I-95 and back to AD's house safely. </div><div><br />I was thrilled to be able to get to tour Ann's house, which I've heard so much about. She loves primitives and her house is chock full of early items - yellow-ware bowls, tin and pewter pieces, redware plates, wonderful old pine and oak furniture, and quilts, in addition to her samplers and other stitched pieces.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405118385658626386" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SwLWiMIdgVI/AAAAAAAAALQ/s_Hp6hvUGWs/s320/DSC00191.JPG" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405118236222236258" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SwLWZfcDJmI/AAAAAAAAALI/1EvmJ-Fo0Zw/s320/DSC00187.JPG" /></div><div>In Ann's sewing room I spied her first block of the Settler's Pride quilt done in hand-dyed wool. One is going to have a white background with a hint of green in it, one will have a black background, and the other has a dark greeny-brown/black background. All are being hooked in different cuts - #4, #6, and #8 (my favorite cut!). It's a great pattern. Maybe I'll have to put it on my list for next year.</div>beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4418946073002267273.post-91526583099539766682009-11-04T08:33:00.019-05:002009-11-04T11:04:16.229-05:00Halloween Hooking!!!<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SvGEae6fuxI/AAAAAAAAAKo/NNsrBjY5NdI/s1600-h/hallhook4.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400243018703813394" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SvGEae6fuxI/AAAAAAAAAKo/NNsrBjY5NdI/s320/hallhook4.JPG" /></a>Welcome to the 3rd Annual Halloween Hooking Weekend - a private workshop at the exclusive <a href="http://www.theazaleahouse.com/">Azalea House Inn </a>on the banks of the beautiful St. Johns River in Palatka, FL. We arrived on Friday morning to be greeted by a fully decorated Inn. Jill loves Halloween and has two trees full of ornies and lots of fun friends on mantles. The stair risers that rug guild members hooked several years ago for the Inn were up and are always fun to see!<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SvGESfYCNBI/AAAAAAAAAKg/LHLIEJZO0WU/s1600-h/AzaleaHo.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400242881388753938" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SvGESfYCNBI/AAAAAAAAAKg/LHLIEJZO0WU/s320/AzaleaHo.JPG" /></a> My project for the weekend was Give Ye Thanks, a Lori Brechlin design of Notforgotten Farm available thru <a href="http://www.spruceridgestudios.com/">Spruce Ridge Studios</a>. Three friends were working on the same design - Lori's Bittersweet Pumpkin, Jill was hooking on Pumpkin Thyme, which she started earlier in the year, and <a href="http://www.wooley-thoughts.blogspot.com/">Melody</a> was busy on Peace and Plenty. Can you tell that we LOVE Lori's designs adapted by Spruce Ridge for rug hooking???</div><div></div><div>Our teacher this year was Dianne Kelly, who was so instructive and as always - FUN! We had many laughs. The night before I left, I just got the urge to dye up a few pieces of wool, and luckily my husband was busy at work. So I had the kitchen to myself for 4 hours. WEEEEE!!! Wet wool everywhere! Dianne liked several of the pieces that resulted, so I used 2 of them for my log cabin. The pictures look a bit dark, but the cabin is a mottled pumpkin-y color, with lighter highlights hooked in.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SvGEJMowPVI/AAAAAAAAAKY/nRukcoXnpf4/s1600-h/hallhook12.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400242721739783506" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SvGEJMowPVI/AAAAAAAAAKY/nRukcoXnpf4/s320/hallhook12.JPG" /></a> Black lettering and brown trees. I'll be sure to post some progress pictures.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SvGDxFNXDBI/AAAAAAAAAKI/rsUi-W3ymqA/s1600-h/hallhook1.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400242307428977682" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SvGDxFNXDBI/AAAAAAAAAKI/rsUi-W3ymqA/s320/hallhook1.JPG" /></a>Decorated trees! TREATS! THREATS!Happy Halloween to all! I hope that you get lots of treats and NO tricks!<br /><br />Thanks to Princess EW for bringing in a NEW TREAT to the shop the other day. These PEEPS were good - chocolate mousse through and through. These were not just dipped in color with the white insides, like the orange pumpkins that she also had. Notice that the package is empty! YUM!<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SuosPgN0JtI/AAAAAAAAAJg/F2cOiK0nO1k/s1600-h/peeps.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398175748214499026" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SuosPgN0JtI/AAAAAAAAAJg/F2cOiK0nO1k/s320/peeps.JPG" /></a><br />Also, many thanks to my sister, who always sends me a box at Halloween. This box had some fun candy - besides chocolate, there were also Gummy skeletons in different colors. Below, is one of the favorite items that she sent - a water bottle from BlueQ. BlueQ's stuff is hilarious, as is this item. I also got a Pirate Girl PINK T'shirt, Pirate Girl sticker, a pad of gorgeous scrapbook paper, along with a few Wizard of Oz papers, a card with the Wicked Witch of the West on it, and picture of my nieces. TREATS! TREATS! TREATS!<br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398175949553105026" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_frCRL0Hfj3M/SuosbOQreII/AAAAAAAAAJo/COmCb8Rfaek/s320/holywater.JPG" />beeinstitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05414055518035017639noreply@blogger.com1
